BUILD
CONTEXT

The Lo—TEK Curriculum offers an opportunity for students to question dominant mythology and reassess what sustainable development actually looks like across industries and phenomena.

The Lo—TEK Curriculum empowers autonomous learning. Choose one of the two possible pathways provided below or create your own!

NAVIGATE
CONTENT

OPTION 1

Start with "THE BOOK": Lo—TEK Design by Radical Indigenism

  • Read the introduction to the book and note probing questions, counter narratives and any information that is new, thus intriguing.

  • Review the technologies present in the book and their geographical locations. Pick a location and technology you would like to start with.

  • Read and annotate/reflect on the technology you chose in the book. Anytime you are reading new information we highly suggest posing probing questions that empower specificity and nuance and making connections within the text to existing knowledge or research you have come across.

IDENTITY RESEARCH SECTION

  • Click on the identity research section of your chosen technology. Identity Research is the entry point to the various phenomena presented in each chapter. Each Identity Research section starts by highlighting a First Nation artist across the Americas. Listen, reflect and then think critically about the questions presented and dig deeper in writing, conversation or both.

CONCEPT EXPLORATION

  • Click on the Concept Exploration section attached to that technology. Engage with the perspectives presented and complete the exploration.

INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH

  • Head over to interdisciplinary research and begin your deep dive into the dialectic—this is where you will investigate and discuss the various truths across disciplines.

LAND BASED LEARNING EXCURSION

  • Visit the Land Based Learning Hub and pick a guided or free flowing excursion to engage with. This is time for learners to explore what they've studied, written and discussed in more depth and in a natural setting that will inspire deeper connections and purpose.

PHENOMENA BASED PROJECT

  • Once you have repeated this process for the first five technologies we ask that you stop and take some time to review the project page. Now that you have built a deep knowledge base it is important to think about how you might innovate with that knowledge at the forefront.

Repeat the process above until you get back to the project page, after the next five technologies have been completely explored and researched. Once back on the project page it is time to start choosing your path towards innovation.

OPTION 2

Start with "THE BOOK": Lo—TEK Design by Radical Indigenism

  • Read the book in its entirety reflecting in writing and discussion on each chapter through probing questions, new content, connection to prior knowledge, research, world views. This can be done in a book club format prior to starting the online portion of the curriculum.

PHENOMENA BASED PROJECT

  • Review the project page to see what innovations you will be creating, exploring, reflecting on.

Start with the first technology listed—Agricultural Terraces and move through the technologies chronologically.

START WITH A LAND BASED LEARNING EXCURSION—

  • Visit the Land Based Learning Hub and pick a guided or free flowing excursion to engage with. During the excursion students should reflect on the technology they will be entering into and discuss the questions presented in the identity research section while on the excursion.

Once back in the classroom—

Finish discussions around the identity research section

Then, engage in the concept exploration section

Finally, complete the interdisciplinary research and spend time as you study the larger questions presented

Once you have completed your study of each technology—

Go back to the project page and begin sketching out your path towards innovation.
